Clinton

 Clinton Lloyd

Clinton is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) 

He graduated from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1990. Having completed basic science research in Bristol, he completed his specialist training in Southampton General Hospital between 1999 and 2003 before spending a year as Mechanical Support and Transplant Fellow in Stanford University, California, USA in 2004. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Derriford in 2005

Clinton performs all aspects of Cardiac Surgery & has specialist expertise in Keyhole Aortic and Keyhole Mitral valve surgery & transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He has a specialist interest in MECC - Miniaturised Extracorporeal Circuit which minimises the effect of the heart lung machine on various body organs.

Clinton is a founder member and Chairman of BISMICS (British and Irish Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery)and has been responsible for the introduction of a number of new procedures or treatments in the South West and he lectures both Nationally and Internationally on his specialist areas of interest.

To his credit are over 30 publications including a book, book chapters and scientific research papers. Clinton has experience as principal investigator in research trials & has also contributed to both commercial and non-commercial, including NIHR sponsored clinical trials including the UK TAVI trial and UK mini-mitral trial.

Clinton sits on the executive of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery GB and Ireland as SCTS Meeting secretary and has organised the SCTS national meeting for 5 years. His charitable work includes working with BISMICS and HVV (Heart Valve Voice)
